The middle of December we found out we could move here! The abode on the right.
A one bedroom rental, neighbors to my writing friend. His place and...
I wasn't sure we could really do it. We were a month shy of four years in a nice place...but here:
A place that's supremely quiet. Property, and, more hens, another dog, and even a BEE hive! Not to mention MORE garden space, and well water and.... and...a fire stove. Oh, yes, not to mention cheaper rent and half the distance for Taka to drive to work and to our girls homes.
Our front door. Previous tenant had cats. Mom suggested we put a picture of a cat in that door : )
The five hens have a third of the deer-proofing-fenced-in areas with their coop.
Taka has been able to transplant also, perhaps 1/3, or more like 1/4 the plants from our previous rental. He got started clearing out blackberry bushes from the beginning of January.
Our first night to sleep was January 21st. Lots of rodents were around, happy no cats were no longer living here?! Taka went to work at trapping them. By March he got almost all of them "out of there"!Stepping stones, Taka started putting in after all the plants got planted.
The view from our kitchen sink...
It was quite the timing. Uncle Lynn let us know he was opening up Grandmom's house, (three years March 20th, since her passing) and... now we had a home that could house her dining room table, her chairs have a home with us and...
The dresser I loved of hers, Taka said he was happy to have it! Then there in the middle of the living room, where we couldn't fit in our old coffee table, the stacking tables from Grandmom's fit perfectly. I can stack them and I can squeeze into that space on the carpet to do morning yoga! Between the massage chair we had move over and the tables.
Above, looking back from the front door to our kitchen. Yes, high ceiling, and this "woody look" grows on us daily, big time, feeling all homey. Btw, the couch, a fold out to bed, with storage beneath, we were about to buy one for hundreds of dollars, then... I found the same one FOR FREE on Craig's list. Talk about RIGHT ON!
Again, from the front door, to the left are the gardens out the windows, that's the door into our bedroom. Taka found that our bed... situated NOT to the north (taboo in Japan- only for the dead should heads face north).
Grandmom's dresser, "perfect timing" pretty much! I'd bought one from Costco, again hundreds of dollars, cause my old dresser was too long, I wanted a higher standing one. Day after we brought home the Costco dresser, we were told we could go inside Grandmom's. Her dresser is mine now and everyday, all that furniture from Grandmom, I thank her. (And yes, we hadn't taken the new Costco dresser our of the box, and returned it the next day).
again, high ceilings...
Our one bathroom, with shower...true we all have to walk through the bedroom to get to it~ but with the brand new vanity, it feels right on. We don't have our hot tub anymore, but landlord's hot tub is available for our use! : ) we don't pay $100./month for our hot tub electricity at previous rental, or $100./month for water anymore.
Looking out our front door.
Buddha's new view.
Grandmom's Bear's new view too.
Looking back towards the driveway. We gave away about 10 pots of bamboo, but still have three here. This is our patio.
Looking down at the yard/gardens. Mustards will be tilled under in April.
And the wood stove that, now Taka has time to light fires in mornings, rather than be on the road driving to work!
Our GARAGE! Where we get to store all the stuff we don't have to have in the house! ; ) Landlord's huge barn/garage between ours and our home.
This is why it's so quiet. The road comes up to our place then jackknifes around to head up into the mountain. (That's another neighbor across the way. Our place is behind me photographing this).
This property was a farmer's back when it was still horse and carriage times. Our owner friends moved here and raised there kids a while ago.
The hills, and woods back behind us! Where deer and just-one? bobcat lives. There are almost twenty less gophers since Taka took up trapping them around our gardening area ; )
There you have it. Our most fortunate recent move. Here... we hope to be for a long time!
